To use a Pbebank Visa Electron Card (in a sane way)

When I first applied the Public Bank's Visa Electron Card, I was told I could use it immediately (for pumping gas, as told by the card issuer) in a completely foolproof way. WRONG.

First of all, the card PIN letter wasn't issued on the same time when you collect the card, it was SENT to you AFTER you received the card, so good luck trying to spend cash on a card you own that you can't access JUST YET.

But what are the odds, in a place like Malaysia, it seems that this is the only card that is accepted to be used with Paypal for cash withdrawals.

Paying with it.

So after like a month waiting, the PIN letter finally came. GREAT, let's start spendin'!

Actually scratch that, I haven't touched the card like for a few months after I changed the default pin. Until today, when I seriously needed it.

So until now, I still haven't actually figured out how to actually put some cash into the card. I went to the bank, and found out that I could not apply an online account for this debit card from the ATM, GREAT. Then, I went over to the cash deposit machine, all 3 were down (there were 3 of them).

Just so you know, this is quite an emergency, I needed to pay for my domain today, and it expired like yesterday.

Since it's practically impossible to get within the card from any of the facilities provided by the bank, my last resolution would be to transfer cash to it AS IF I WERE AN OUTSIDER. And thank god, that is possibly the most brilliant thing I ever thought of.

My Savings.

So I logged on my pbebank savings account, looked around the options. Took me 3 logouts and logins, 4 googling before I finally realized I couldn't just transfer to the credit card using the 'Funds Transfer' Menu.

Let me tell you what's retarded.

They placed the option to manage your credit card/debit card accounts (Accounts Registration & Maintainance) at the Funds Transfer category, basically any sane person would have thought that clicking on 'Transfer to OWN Accounts' in the same category would allow you to transfer to the credit card you just added from the Accounts Management page. WRONG

Apparently, to transfer to a credit card, you have to go for the Payments/Recharge category, and guess what, no its not in the 'To Own Accounts' page. Clicking on that option will bring you to an error message stating you do not have any accounts associated to you. It's basically listed under ' To Registered 3rd Party Accounts', which is retarded, because I don't consider MY OWN CARD as a 3rd party. Hey, Calvin say hi to Calvin!

ANYWAY, now that I finally transferred some cash to the card, it is finally possible to USE the card.

Right.

Somehow the card just wouldn't registered, and would get rejected for some reason unknown. So, I went for the last resort, to link the card to my paypal account. Ok, finally the payment got through! GAWDDAMN.

For some reason, paypal is a bitch about trusting us, so it needs me to confirm my card from the card statement. Nice, but apparently I haven't been receiving any statements in the mail, so I am not quite sure what is going to happen. Hopefully the only reason why it isn't coming is because I haven't been using it.

You know what would be awesome? E-STATEMENT. Which brings me to my next question, does anyone knows how to create a pbebank online account for a visa electron card?

Starcraft 2.

It's about damn time. This game is seriously addictive, fun, and funny! The storyline is very good, easy to understand, and sometimes you have to make hard choices. Like one part where you have to decide to stick to protecting your colony or working with the protoss. Both have benefits, and it's a pretty big dilemma for me.

Not to mention, each mission is unique and has a purpose in furthering the story. By these impressive traits, I am not surprised why the game took this long.

All in all, 10/10 ratings.

Apple's profit in Q1 = $3.25b

Where are all the haters prophesizing about Apple's impending doom due to " iPad's limited functionality ", as well as the much blown out of proportion antennagate problem?

Oh, probably hiding in the bomb shelter now, trying to find another problem to harp on.

Haters be hating, Apple's profits keeps rising.

Re: iPhone 4 Antenna

Hey angry iPhone 4 owners, do yourself a favor. RETURN that iPhone 4 please, seriously, don't need to bring your anger about how you can't call on it into the forums, blogs and emails. We will just look at those rants, and laugh.

Don't like a free condom? Apple has promised FULL REFUND for it, and hey, it's not such a bad idea to get an ANDROID device along the way, you know, like the Droid X?

After all, every returns means more stocks for the rest of us that WANTS ONE.

Mm kay? Thanks.

@ Open Web Asia

It was fun being there, meeting all kinds of people from different places. Everyone usually have different opinions about the industry, some say there's money to be found in games, some say the gold rush is on the social web, and some say that startups are easily worth more than 10mil if they have excellent products.

But there is this point where they all agree on, Malaysia is too small of a market to be investing in, and we should broaden our products to international markets.

On the subject of programming languages

Some people are afraid to dive into objective-c, and it's not hard to see why, it looks intimidating at first sight. And apparently, many developers got so frighten by it at first looks, they decided to stick to the 2nd best solution, java.

First of all, java is a failed vision. Yes, that mighty, write once runs everywhere language, is a failed product. Mainly because it has not achieved what it was set out to solve. In fact, I daresay, QT is much more successful in that goal, and it is what Nokia is betting on to gain back it's smartphone marketshares.

Android, Smartphone Messiah.

There's been alot of noise in the blogosphere right now, mainly stating how Android is more 'open' , as well as how it is easier to develop for, because it runs java. Hold it right there, the 'java' that Android supports, is a half arsed version that does not include all the java libraries. Unless your application runs in a text based environment (command line), you will need to learn about Android's APIs for anything involving GUI.

That said, it is not any simpler to port an existing java application to Android, compared to porting C codes from an existing iPhone application over to Android.

Developing for the iPhone

First of all, iPhone does not requires you to learn objective-c, let me repeat once again, it doesn't requires you to learn objective c. If your application was previously written in C, GOOD FOR YOU. All you need to do is take that C code over (yes, it runs C and C++), and do some modification to support iPhone's GUI components (lots of code snippits on the internet), and everything will be fine. Of course, once you have launched your application to the appstore, you might want to consider learning objective c to leverage the power of Cocoa Touch libraries, you won't regret it.

iPhone 4 VS Evo 4G

So much fanboys, so much reasons, so much debates. In the end, it all boils down to this.

The Evo is going obsolete next month, when a bigger and spec crazy android phones comes around and kills the Evo.

Huh? Suddenly the Evo isn't that mighty anymore? ;)

..

Btw, the iPhone isn't a smartphone, it's an iPhone, yes it has it's own category.

calvin Well it could be beaten. If competitors aren't focused in copying it ;)
